Rocks & Dirty Fabulous 1960’s Inspired Vintage Photoshoot

After taking a look through all the wedding magazines for inspiration for a little collaboration with a bridal store we realised the ‘vintage’ and ‘retro’ look was not getting as much column inches as we thought it deserved.

Over the next few weeks we will be showcasing the best of vintage from the amazing Dirty Fabulous store in Dublin. Together with our jewellery we created some really special looks for you all. Get some inspiration or copy the look entirely, best of all these looks do not cost the earth. We have chosen some select pieces to get you through your retro wedding and make a statement along the way.

Here is our first 1960’s inspired shoot. Quodos to our very own Rocks lady Louise for doing a great job modelling the sparkling goods. photo 7.jpg

Our setting in Dirty Fabulous was just perfect to get a real feel for the look. It didn’t take us long to get a complete look put together with the help of Caroline from Dirty Fabulous. Louise is wearing a 1960’s Ivory Chiffon and Lace Empire gown with pearl details which can be picked up for a 1960’s price tag of €640. To complete her look we paired the gown up with a bespoke headpiece created by the very talented hands of Caroline in Dirty Fabulous. More about their fabulous pieces later!

We got really inspired by the gown and headpiece and decided to adorn Louise with a mixture of rose gold and silver jewellery pieces. Firstly we added pearl and cz earrings to the look to pick up on the intricate pearl details on the dress. Check out the earrings on Rocks Jewellers website if you want to get your hands on these for your own wedding day. At €49 they are perfect for the day but also for everyday wear afterwards too!Earrings 1960's photo 3.jpg

To add to the deeper tones of the ivory gown we added a Rose Gold bracelet with delicate flower detailing to pick up the subtle lace motifs on the gown. (Bracelet €70) A split shoulder rose gold and cz ring adds more colour and contrast to the look.(Ring €75)

All truely vintage looks have a ‘must have’ item on the list, check out our Rocks Vintage Cameo brooch in 9kt gold, €475. A Cameo brooch never goes out of style and pairing this brooch or indeed any brooch brings a look straight make to era’s gone by.Cameo & Earrings 1960's photo 1.jpg

Dirty Fabulous finished off the look perfectly with a hand crafted headpiece and a seperate veil delicately placed to just covers her eyes and draw your attention to the red lips, sparking pearls and intricate neckline of the dress. Check out Dirty Fabulous’ other creations here.

– Show Stopping Fashion @ Stillorgan Village –

Stillorgan Shopping Centre has been re-named Stillorgan Village, and to celebrate the changes taking place there was a fabulous fashion show organised to let everyone know what quality brands and stores are in the Village.

Rocks are so pleased to see the new facelift within the shopping centre and we were delighted to be part of the fashion show also! All the models looked amazing in the clothes and accessories.

Dream Wedding Winners!

It all started a few months ago when hundreds of engaged couples heard about an amazing €10,000 dream wedding giveaway organised by The Stillorgan Park Hotel.

Rocks Jewellers were asked to join in on the event and we were delighted to put €1000 gift card towards the lucky recipients wedding rings. We knew there were so many worthy couples out there who would love to get the opportunity to get invovled in a once in a lifetime opportunity like this and being involved in the gift was great for Rocks Jewellers.

Eventually after weeks of voting on facebook the top 50 couples gathered last night for the big draw. The Stillorgan Park Hotel as well as Rocks Jewellers and the other gift sponsors pulled out all the stops with the room decorations and displays. Everyone there had a lovely evening but as 8pm came closer everyone was waiting for the draw to take place.

Paul Webster & Elaine McNally were named the lucky winners and we had the pleasure of speaking to them earlier in the evening. What a lovely couple and we are delighted that they have won the prize!

What a great event and hopefully we’ll get to see the other, not so lucky, couples popping into us in Grafton Street or Stillorgan shortly to take us up on our FAB offer to all the top 50 entrants.

— Rocking @ Baselworld 2012 —

Michael, Victor and Robert Rock attending a CK Party at Baselworld 2012

Baselworld is the world’s largest watch and jewellery trade fair for watch and jewellery enthusiasts, offering up everything from popularly-priced mass market peices to exquisite one off’s – and Rocks Jewellers were there to ensure our customers will be getting the most on trend, best quality and most popular brands and products on the market today.

“Overall the experience was amazing” says Robert Rock, “ We got to see first hand what’s going to be happening down the line in jewellery and watches and we are happy to report Rocks  Jewellers are ahead of the game and in position to deliver everything that the customer will want.”

Some of the feedback from the show was as follows:-

Jewellery Trends

For jewellery, Rocks Jewellers noticed some real trends emerging at the fair and the good news is these are all available at Rocks Jewellers. Some of the most important trends included:

BlueThe colour blue coordinates well with the colour of the year for the fashion houses which is orange. From sapphire blue, aquamarine and topaz, Rocks have many of the items in store including Links of London, Tresor Paris, Thomas Sabo, Pandora and Rocks.

Jade. Pandora unveiled nephrite jade pieces in a collection of pendants, rings and earrings. All very unique and apparently their popularity is due to grow and grow this year so watch this space. Also one of our own – a stunning vintage Jade peice from Rocks also fits the bill.

Orange. The Pantone Colour Institute’s Colour of the Year was evident at the high and low ends — from topaz, garnets to cz’s — and should continue to grow in popularity throughout 2012. Thomas Sabo and Tresor Paris really have gotten hold of this trend.

PearlsFrom freshwater to cultured, pearls are becoming a prevalent choice for focal points in jewellery. Rocks Jewellers Chic Collection has developed a collection that satisfies this trend really well with attractive pricing coupled with exceptional quality and choice. Check them out! Let’s not forget Links of London and Paul Costelloe who have also done a great job introducing pearls into their collections.

One-Of-A-Kinds. People love uniqueness and while many of the most popular brands cannot gaurantee uniqueness some of the larger jewellery houses can, as statement peices. We at Rocks have so many unique peices due to have an unrivalled vintage and antique collection in store and online.

One standout watch brand is Seiko, with their new Solar watch, the impressive timepiece, powered by solar cells in the dial eliminating the need for batteries, can adjust itself to the time and location of the world’s 39 time zones at the gentle push of a button, thanks to signals from at least four GPS satellites, which the watch is always in contact. It is the first timepiece able to adapt immediately to all of the world’s time zones, wherever the wearer travels. That’s why Seiko calls it “the first global watch.”

“Overall we were delighted to be part of the fair and it will help us ensure we are ahead of the game when it comes to delivering the best jewellery to our customers now and way into the future.”
