Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab grown diamonds are beautiful and affordable diamonds.

Laboratory diamonds replicate the natural process by crystallizing carbon into brilliant diamonds that are chemically, optically and physically identical to earth-mined diamonds, but can cost up to 50% less. At Rocks Jewellers we can now offer our customers Lab Grown Diamonds as an alternative to earth-mined diamonds.

Each laboratory-created diamond is grown by placing a diamond ‘seed’ into a chamber of heat and pressure. This chamber mimics the natural growing process. Crystallization occurs allowing the lab-grown diamond to mature over a period of time. It is then cut, polished and graded by the same world-renowned labs that certify earth-mined diamonds.

The only difference between Lab-Grown and earth-mined diamonds is their point of origin. Guaranteed origin, full disclosure, and commitment to transparency, assure that Lab Grown Diamonds are conflict-free.

Bespoke Jewellery

You may have heard that we have created some beautiful handmade bespoke engagement ring and wedding rings for Irish celebrities and influencers. Recently we have gotten lots of inquiries about bespoke jewellery. So we put together this blog to let you know about the process and what it entails.

Here at Rocks Jewellers we carry a unique collection of beautiful rings that will catch your eye and fit within your budget. However, we are happy to help you bring your own vision of a perfect diamond ring to life. Our bespoke jewellery is designed and carefully handcrafted in our Dublin based workshop.

So here are the steps of designing and creating your perfect ring:

Firstly, contact us by calling in store or make an appointment to discuss your ideas and requirements.  Feel free to bring pictures, sketches; anything you have with you to the appointment.  We also have a wide selection of jewellery that we can take ideas from.

Following your first appointment a CAD image is created.  CAD images are computer generated designs which we use to show you what your bespoke ring is going to look like. These Images include views from the top, side and bottom.  We are still able to make modifications at this stage.

Once you approved the CAD images, we will make a wax mould.  The wax is made in the exact dimensions of the ring that we are creating.

Following this we get started on making the ring in the metal of your choice and setting the diamonds. The ring is them cleaned and polished.

The goldsmith has one last look over the bespoke ring to ensure it is finished to perfection. The whole design and creation process take approximately 4 – 6 weeks.

If you would like us to design and create a bespoke ring or piece of jewellery for you, please get in contact with us by making an appointment or calling in to out Grafton Street or Stillorgan stores.

Thinking of Proposing? – We’re Here to Help

bannerOk so we think selling engagement rings for over 40 years has given us some great insights into what is the best information we can give someone who is thinking about popping the question in the near future. Take our advice and you’ll have one happy lady!

Spend some time researching before you go shopping and the whole process will be a lot simpler. Alternatively ask questions at your consultation. Your Diamond Specialist will be more than happy to answer any questions you have.

Spend whatever you like – there are beautiful rings at every price point but once you have a budget your jeweller can show you what is available to you.

4 C’s

These are details regarding the Colour, Clarity, Carat & Cut of your diamond. The better the grading in each of these areas the more expensive your diamond will become. Look for diamonds that are F to G colour, VS2 to SI1 clarity, Very Good Cut and then you can decide on the Carat size of your diamond. These grading’s represent great value and the difference between those and higher grades are not visible to the naked eye. For more information on the 4 C’s see our detailed blog here.

Certification refers to the body that has graded your diamond. If the grading house is not one of the top issuers in the world it may be difficult to be assured that the grading’s are true. The top grading houses in the world today are GIA, IGI and HRD. There are many others but reputable jewellers only issue one of the top certificates. This way you know what you’re buying is a true reflection of the price you are paying.

The style of ring is super important. Take note of things your partner already showed interest in. Check out their existing jewellery and rings and take note of the style. Your jeweller will take this information and suggest rings that suit their style.

While you are having a look at her jewellery take one of the rings she wears on the same finger on the other hand and your jeweller will be able to make an educated guess as to her ring size. However don’t worry too much as most rings can be sized up or down a few sizes relatively quickly so that your new Fiancé can be wearing her ‘Rock’ as soon as possible.

Leave plenty of time between shopping for a ring and proposing. Perhaps you will need to get your ring made, perhaps you will be sourcing a diamond and maybe it will take you longer than anticipated to make a decision. Either way leave enough time so you are not under any undue stress.

Wedding Rings

I know the wedding is a long way off yet but just inquire about what type of wedding ring will suit your chosen engagement ring. This way you can inform your new Fiancé if the ring has a matching wedding ring available or if it is a little more unique you may need to get one made up before the big day.

One last thing – don’t forget to ask, whoever is important to your partner, for their permission to propose. It will mean a lot to them I assure you.

Get your substantial purchase added to your insurance policy as soon as possible. The last thing you need to be worrying about is losing the precious ring.

We really hope giving you all this information helps you understand the world of diamonds a little better. Remember though if you shop in a reputable jewellers they will guide you through the process and have many years’ experience selling quality jewellery. Relax and enjoy!

If you would like to make an appointment to view some of our stunning engagement rings at Rocks Jewellers you can do so here. You can enjoy spending some time mulling over your options on our private viewing floor in our centrally located Grafton Street store.

How to Instagram Your Wedding

How to instagram your wedding

With all the fun and excitement that surrounds your big day you will be eager to see your wedding photographs, unfortunately it can be frustrating having to wait weeks or even months to get your photographs. However, it can be exciting when your friends and family upload some of the pictures to their social media sites or email them to you. Typically, fifty percent of your guests are likely to have their smartphones with them, Instagram is a quick and easy way to get a variety of images of your big day, and it’s a great way to get your guest be involved. Take full advantage of using Twitter, Facebook and Instagram throughout the day, as it gives people who were unable to make your special day a little sneak-peek into the day and gives you – bride, groom and wedding party something to look at right away when your wonderful day has come to an end. inst wed2 12345 Instagram doesn’t provide users with the easiest way to view posts that you have been tagged in, so creating a specific hashtag (that hasn’t been used before!) is the simplest way to view images only from your day. For example type #lillyandmaxwedding into your tag search on Instagram to view photos from the day. If you are undecided about a wedding hashtag another option is to create a profile that people can follow and this will enable them to tag your wedding in photos. Don’t worry if you already have an Instagram profile, simply log out and create a new account with a name that relates to your wedding day. This way you will always have a place you can go to that is solely for your special day. 123456 DIY photobooth Another way to incorporate Instagram into your wedding day is to provide your guests with props and backdrops, then get them to take photographs on their smart phones or an iPad, similar to a photo booth. Whether you use the hashtag or decide to upload the photos directly to your wedding profile, it will give your guests something to search for or follow when the celebrations are over. Instagram cards The easiest way to introduce your guests to this idea is by creating a card that can be placed in the invitation along with the other wedding information or placed on the tables at the reception, explaining the concept and also highlighting the selected hashtag and/or profile. I would suggest something like the image below, which is just a sample mock-up of what you could do.

INSTA Happy Instagraming from all at Rocks Jewellers.

The Perfect Proposal Inspired by The Movies

Will you marry me photo Willyoumarryme_zps050da7dc.jpg

As you all know we think #loverocks, there is just something about the romance and the excitement! Are you thinking of spreading a little love and excitement by proposing? Then why not take some inspiration from her favourite romantic movie! Some girl’s dream of a picture perfect proposal, and it can be hard to live up to their expectation, but not to worry we have compiled some picture perfect proposal straight from the movies, for you to take some inspiration from.

photo dividerrocks_zpsbde1501f.jpgSerendipity:  OK! So start by placing hundreds of rose petals on the floor just inside the door, have the room lit by candle light and a roaring open fire. Place a big box on the rose petals with a note that reads “Open Me!” Place wrapped boxes inside boxes and in the last box place the empty ring box, then come out asking her to marry you.

He’s Just Not That Into You: Some girls dream of a simple but meaningful proposal! So why not take some inspiration from the movie ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ because who could forget Neil (Ben Affleck) proposing to Beth (Jennifer Aniston) by hiding a ring in a pair of old trousers. Plant the idea for a clear out to make some room in the wardrobe, and place the engagement ring in the pocket of an old pair of jeans that she will throw out…but make sure she checks the pocket! And if the clear out is a no go, place the ring in your favourite jeans and ask your lucky lady to wash them for tonight because you are taking her for dinner! And again make sure that she checks the pockets and you are there when she does!

 photo dividerrocks_zpsbde1501f.jpg

Wedding Singer: Some ladies love the idea of a public proposal and how could you get anything more romantic than being sang to over the intercom on a plane. However, if you are not taking a flight together not to worry, you could come in to the room singing the song from the ‘Wedding Singer’ and playing the guitar. If you don’t play the guitar you could learn or just play the sound track in the back ground, and not to worry if you can’t sing…it’s all about the words of the song not your voice.

 photo dividerrocks_zpsbde1501f.jpg

Sweet Home Alabama: Let’s be honest what woman’s heart didn’t melt when Andrew (Patrick Dempsey) took Melanie (Reese Witherspoon) to Tiffany’s after-hours, and got down on one knee in the shop?  As if that wasn’t romantic enough, the proposal really hit fantasyland when he gestured to every diamond and said, “Pick one.” Average guys don’t stand a chance after that, however, still take your lucky lady to the jewellers after hours preferably through the back entrance in order to keep the surprise. Once you are in the shop switch the light on to reveal the rings and you down on one knee. Arrange for the jewellers to display rings within your price range. This will still give the illusion of picking any ring she wants but within your budget.

Tips for a Perfect Proposal

proposal photo proposal1_zps5fe00c26.jpg

At Rocks we love valentines day, it is such a romantic time of year . There are so many things that make this time of year so special and that is why it is the perfect backdrop to ask the special question.

Don’t get overwhelmed and carried away in the moment, for any engagement to be perfect it needs some planning. So here at Rocks we have put together some tips to help you with the perfect proposal. We will also point out some possible pitfalls you may encounter and how to avoid them.

1. Tell only those who need to know! First, take advantage of the surprise element that may occur. Tell only those who need to know. Parents would be on the top of the list, however, if there happens to be a chatty mum or dad then tell the other parent. You may even want to show them the ring; they may have some advice for the proposal.

2. Deciding on the perfect Ring. Unless you two have already shopped for engagement rings, you probably are not sure what type ring to pick. If this is the case take a look at her other rings, take her lifestyle and personality in to consideration, and if all else fails fish for some information about what she expects in a perfect ring. Don’t be hurt or upset if she decides to change the ring you have chosen, remember she has to wear it forever. Check with the jeweller that you can exchange the ring before you purchase it. But chances are she’ll keep the ring you chose.

3. Where to propose? If you are a both big family people than you may feel like you need to have them nearby. But remember this is meant to be a special moment for just the two of you. If the beach has been a special place for the two of you then take a walk along the beach and have ‘will you marry me?’ written in the sand. Another option would be in the living room in front of your family and friends and an open fire, where a dinner proposal is also nice and traditional.

4. What to wear. Yes, what you wear matters, as you only get to do this once! And you want her to remember the moment. Depending on where and how you decide to propose a suit adds an extra bit of romance, otherwise you could wear a nice pair of jeans and a shirt.

5. What to say. Think over what to say but do not over rehearse it! Tell her how you feel and what she means to you. And yes, you should say I love you! And say it on one knee!

6. How to say it.  If you decide to do something a little different that’s great but remember YOU still have to ask the question.

7. When to say it. Pick a time when you think she is relaxed. When she’s ranting about work is probably is not the right time to ask her to marry you. If she is a morning person, surprise her with breakfast and a ring. Maybe there is a special dinner or party you are attending, on your way out the door tell her that she is missing something, get down on one knee and ask her to marry you…now she has the perfect accessory!

8. Be yourself. Although these suggestions are meant to help, be yourself. She loves you for who you are!

9. Seal the deal with a kiss!

We hope this will help you with your perfect proposals!
